Billy Bob Thornton and Bruce met through their shared manager, the late Phil Walden. Thornton says he wrote the part of 'Morris the band manager' with Bruce in mind. 'Sling Blade' went on to win the Oscar in 1997 for Best Original Screenplay and the entire cast was nominated by the Screen Actors Guild for 'Outstanding Performance by a Cast.'

Mike Gordon, the bass player for Phish, created this 'outstructional video' with Hampton in mind. Bruce is a guitar teacher to student Jimi Stout in what has been called one of the weirdest music movies ever made. 'Outside Out' garnered the audience award at the South by Southwest festival.
